JOURNEY

Meet your leader

Peter Dark

Peter believes in building strong foundations. That is true whether we are talking about ground stabilisation projects or building the team’s careers.

Unlocking potential at GSS Group is more than trucks and machinery. His core focus as a leader is living by our slogan: “Committed to unlocking potential.” This means creating a culture in our new Beresfield HQ and on our projects where a job turns into a career. We are proud to employ skilled operators, technicians, drivers and project teams who share our DNA of safety, precision, and “can-do” reliability.

///

Setting and adjusting the line

He pioneered Australia’s longest hybrid rockfall barrier for the Department of Transport NSW. As an industry leader, Peter’s comfort level with pushing the limits of what is possible extends to delivering projects never before tried in Australia, innovating through new equipment or techniques, and collaborating globally with like-minded CEOs. However, he also sees failures as growth opportunities. In this project he identified early that access to better difficult access equipment for safety and productivity was needed, planting the seed for what is now GSS Logistics.

///

Typical Day

An early morning start sees Peter working through the project planning schedules, reviewing the previous day’s site photos and meeting with the Ops manager for equipment and staffing requirements. A mid-morning catch-up with the bids and estimating teams has him reviewing bid methodology, tender responses and strategic workforce planning. The afternoon then rounds out with a catchup with the site coordinators and yard managers regarding maintenance and logistics, finishing his day with customer and supplier interactions and business administration.

///

Unlocking Potential, Building Progress

Peter thrives on two core themes: unlocking the team’s potential and building progress in national civil infrastructure. He aims to be the industry’s most accessible and approachable CEO, committing to this through weekly connections with his teams, opportunities for staff to shadow him and mentoring junior staff. Peter has a hunger for innovation in drilling equipment, technology or methodology and he spends significant time researching and attending trade shows. He vows never to stand still in his endeavours to move the industry forward.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: MC/HC DRIVER & CRANE OPERATOR

Standard freight is easy. We don’t do easy, we manage the complex. GSS Logistics is looking for Heavy Vehicle Specialists (MC/HC) who are tired of being “steering wheel attendants” and ready to step up to specialist transport. Operating out of Beresfield, you’ll operate a modern, late-model fleet of Kenworths and Ivecos, moving the heavy, oversized, and time-sensitive assets that keep the East Coast running. Whether you’re navigating tight Sydney sites or handling long-haul runs to QLD, we value precision over “just getting it there.” If you have the tickets, the pride in your gear, and a clean record, submit your EOI today. Join a family-owned team where you’re a respected specialist, not just a number.

Quick Apply

At GSS Logistics we would rather talk to you than read about you. So if you don’t have a CV ready? No problem, fill out the below and we will give you a call.

NO BS Q&A

What kind of equipment and fleet will I be operating at GSS Logistics?

We take pride in our “gear.” You will operate a diverse, late-model fleet that includes late-model Kenworths and Ivecos. Our specialised equipment includes crane trucks (with CV tickets), flatbeds, floats for heavy haulage, and tipper trucks, all maintained to the highest standards to ensure reliability and safety on every run.

Which regions does GSS Logistics service on the East Coast?

Headquartered in Beresfield (near Newcastle, NSW), our network reach extends across the entire East Coast, including New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (QLD), Victoria (VIC), and the ACT. Our drivers provide critical supply chain solutions ranging from local industrial movements to interstate heavy haulage.

How does GSS Logistics prioritise driver safety and compliance?

Safety is our priority. We enforce a zero-harm safety culture and maintain strict adherence to Chain of Responsibility (COR) compliance. We don’t cut corners on maintenance or safety protocols, ensuring our specialists get home safely while delivering the foundational support Australian projects rely on.

What types of transport and freight roles are available?

We are more than just a trucking company; we are a dedicated logistics partner. We specialise in heavy haulage of oversized plant machinery, precise placement of pre-fab buildings via crane trucks, bulk material transport with tippers, and time-sensitive express freight.

What is the company culture like at GSS?

GSS is a family-owned Australian business that values a “can-do” attitude. We differentiate ourselves by offering the personalised, professional service of a close-knit team rather than the impersonal scale of Tier 1 firms. We treat our drivers as specialists whose expertise is critical to “Building Progress”.

What licenses and tickets are required to join the team?

We look for skilled professionals holding MC (Multi-Combination) or HC (Heavy Combination) licenses. For our specialist lifting roles, a CV (Vehicle Loading Crane) ticket and Dogging/Rigging experience are highly valued. All site-based roles require a valid Construction White Card.

Are there opportunities for long-term career growth?

Yes. Our mission is “Committed to Unlocking Potential”. We value long-term employment and provide the training and development needed for our team to grow with us. Whether it’s moving from rigid trucks to heavy haulage or into operations management, we invest in our people’s professional journey.

How does the application and hiring process work at GSS?

Candidates can “Quick Apply” through our online portal, where we prioritise transparency and communication—no ghosting or excuses. We aim for a fast contact time to ensure top talent isn’t left waiting, often conducting initial interviews within days of receiving an Expression of Interest (EOI).
